Team GB sprinter Bianca Williams and her partner were stopped by police on the weekend and have accused the Met Police of racial profiling and acting violently towards them. They fear they were targeted because they are black and drive a Mercedes. There is a stereotype that a few black men driving expensive cars are drug dealers. Using this profile means the police are on the lookout for black men in nice cars and not on the lookout for other types of people in other kinds of cars. Police say the vehicle had been on the wrong side of the road and the driver sped off for 20 seconds when asked to stop. How did the police know they were black if they had tinted windows? You may ask. My point is regardless of your race, why should a mother and father be handcuffed whilst their baby is left in the back of the car for 45 minutes on “dangerous driving” in such an aggressive manner! Watching the video, I’d be scared for my life, the police involved didn’t deal with the stop well and deserve to be disciplined.
